What is Run for the Rovers?
RFTR is a 5K run/walk that invites both people and their dogs to participate in a fundraising effort for Blue Dog Rescue. Presented by Premier Animal Hospital, Run for the Rovers was started in 2006 as a benefit 5k run for local area non-profit Blue Dog Rescue.

“This was one of the best organized 5K’s in Central Texas. The course was fun and challenging and the post race goodies and activities were some of the best I’ve seen,” said Erik Marr who participated with his dog Mae, a Blue Dog Rescue alumnus.

Participating canines must have up-to-date vaccinations as well as be spayed or
neutered.

What is Blue Dog Rescue?
Blue Dog Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, 100% volunteer run organization dedicated to the placement of homeless dogs into permanent, loving homes in the Central Texas area. Through rescue and adoption efforts, as well a tremendous focus on spay and neuter education, Blue Dog is trying to reduce the number of dogs needlessly killed in our local animal shelters.

How does Blue Dog Rescue work?
Blue Dog Rescue has an estimated 50 unpaid volunteers who rescue, foster and
adopt out homeless dogs in the Central Texas area. Volunteers rescue high-risk
dogs in danger of being euthanized at local shelters. With the help of adoption fees
and donations, these dogs are fostered in safe homes and often nursed back to proper health until Blue Dog Rescue finds a suitable, loving home for the pet(s).

Why is Blue Dog Rescue important to the Central Texas community?
In Travis County alone thousands of dogs are euthanized each year. Most of these
animals could have made wonderful, loving companions. Blue Dog Rescue strives
to reduce the needless killings of dogs in the Central Texas area shelters by rescuing and adopting out dogs in need of a home. Since the Spring of 2000, the organization has rescued over 1300 dogs, and has funded the spay and neuter of hundreds more.

How is Blue Dog Rescue funded?
Blue Dog Rescue is funded solely by adoption fees and donations, along with local
fundraising efforts. Events such as Run for the Rovers 5K and the annual Dogtoberfest allow the organization’s continued success in saving the lives of innocent canines. All donations are Federal Tax deductible.
